“It’s a wild time to be alive”, Weyes Blood, Wild Time.

What a weird summer it has been. There is so much uncertainty and weariness, but at the same time there is an incredible potential for renewal and change. It’s strange to think that both aspects could coexist, but here we are. A wild time, truly.
One thing I was not exactly expecting was to have an album’s worth of songs, and then some, by the time summer would end. But here we are. Making this much music in such a short time was surprisingly liberating, and spontaneous. Maybe it was the near-decade-long break I have taken between the last amberhaze release and this new adventure. Whatever it is, the music almost recorded itself for the most part, and that, in itself, was a precious moment to savour. I hope you’ll enjoy it as much as I’ve enjoyed making it.
As usual, I’ll have to credit and thank J, L and D, who have been patient and supportive listeners these past couple of months. Even more so, D created the artwork that inspired the Eolian Sounds logo, Thom painted the digital version, and L has worked on the cover artwork and booklet. The kids are alright, wild time be damned.
Why Eolian Sounds? For starters, it reminds me of home. It also connects to a larger idea I’ve developed since living in Saskatchewan: the natural world is a never-ending source of soundscapes that demand our full attention. Most of the tracks were a direct response to a feature of the landscape, a reaction to the change in seasons, a reflection on how so much beauty around us is in constant danger of erasure and destruction.
It’s a wild time to be alive.
